Since COVID-19 kept us quarantined inside the confines of our homes during the warmer months- stripping us away from enjoying the Summer time- it is finally fall. Let’s welcome this new season with open arms and empty wallets, as we flex all the items we splurged on while online shopping since the beginning of the spread. We all love comfy and cozy looks to keep us sane during long workdays, so here are 9 color trends that we shouldn’t dare shy away from, because colder weather should never mean a dull look.

Nude tones- such as tan, beige, caramel, etc.- are a must have in your closet. It’s fun to separate your daily looks from wearing black pants and blue jeans all the time. A cute pair of brown Levi mom jeans, a cream toned chunky turtleneck sweater from Zara, and light brown Marc Fischer knee-high boots paired with a brown trench jacket screams neutral. Oh, and don’t let anyone tell you can’t wear white during the colder months- that lie died in 2016.

Many people struggle to style brown and find it to be an “uncomplimentary color”. On the contrary, I find it to be a rather minimalistic color, and can be paired with an array of other colors- similarly to the way we style black. And never be mislead by the misconception of styling brown with black- but do take texture and item style into consideration; we don’t want to pair a brown corduroy jacket top with black velvet pants.

Burgundy is a classic Fall color, as it is a beautiful warm AND cool tone. Monochromatic burgundy looks are so chic for this season, and (side note) is a great transition color from fall to winter. But what really is my personal fav is a pair of knee high burgundy boots by Sam Edelman- literally the greatest investment you’ll make. Some more options would include Zara, which has a beautiful burgundy faux leather skirt that screams autumn, as does H&M with their faux leather dress. For a more sustainable option, Pact has an adorable burgundy dress that may be paired with a deep brown/black trench coat.

You may be thinking, “is this type of green really a Fall color?” According to Pantone, it’s in. Chartreuse could seem intimidating, and we shouldn’t compare it to neon green…. the two are very different. Chartreuse is the in-between color of yellow and green. Step out of your comfort zone with this one, and like the color burgundy, make a monochromatic look with this tone. Aritzia has a dashing chartreuse oversized cardigan that may be paired with their babaton murphy longlseeve blouse in the same color- wear that with either black or brown faux leather trouser pants, and you’re ready to be seen!

If Miss Rihanna did it, we all do it. Orange is another classic fall color, and is just as versatile. If we’re on a budget, Target and Lulu’s offers orange/rust orange sweater dresses for the season. Moreover, Nordstrom also has a orange sweater dress with loose sleeves. If we don’t want a dress, blazers and sweaters (as well as accessories) also work well if it’s in the color orange. Let’s use the orange mini shopping bag by Telfar as an example.

Gray might seem unassuming, but when styled right, it is very chic. Gray is an excellent color to pair with burgundy, black, gold, and white. If you like sweaters, aim to get an oversized knit top and pair it with a metallic silver skirt or pant. For more of a casual take, Mango has a high waist straight jean in the shade “denim gray” thats perfect to pair with black cowboy boots or combat boots (aka doc martens). As for accessories, a gray shoulder bag and scarf are super cute, and is also excellent for the transition from fall to winter.

BUBBLEGUM PINK BABY!!! This delicate color could seem too “bright” for the fall, but like I’ve said- we’re here to have fun. A pink sweater top from Banana Republic paired with either blue mom jeans (casual) or cream balloon tapered trousers by BDG (more put-together) is a look. Pink symbolizes hope, which is perfect during these times, and is the best color to wear during the month of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Pantone announced that blue is the color of the year for 2020, so it’s only right that we incorporate it into our fall closet. Blue is an “easy” color to style and is also very versatile. Aritzia has a gorgeous trench coat in smokey blue that’s excellent for the cooler weather. Everlane and L.L. Bean have sweet blue sweaters that go great with brown, black, white, tan, and blue bottoms- whether that be trousers, jeans, or a skirt.

And of course, we have our classic black. There isn’t much to further explain with black, as everyone wears it, but lets talk about which styles to aim towards for this season. We have: long boyfriend blazer, leather jacket, shell cargo pants, satin trousers, slip dress with a sweater under, knee/thigh high boots (NOT JUST THE THIGH HIGH SUEDE ONES), and, my favorite, a pair of chic sunglasses.

The corona virus stripped us of our fun from March to now, but it’s a new season, so let’s liven it up a bit during these dark times.
