LAYERS
I’m not built for the cold.... and I’m sure many others could agree with me on this one. Now that the temperature is plummeting - and the snowfall is coming in hot - all I’m going to want to do is throw on a sweatsuit, and call it a day.
BUT- just because it’s cold doesn’t mean I have to stop dressing cute! If you haven’t been doing this already: checking the weather and planning your outfit for the following morning sets the tone for the next day- I actually find myself stressing less while getting ready. For this season, it’s the perfect way to decide how you’re going to layer up depending on how cold it is.
My favorite go-to “stand out” pieces would have to be my coats and my bags. These pieces are guaranteed to catch everyone’s eye, and are very noticeable. Not to mention- being it’s so cold outside- I want to be able to have fun with my looks. I’ve made some trend boards below for trench coats, puffer coats, and bags that should help guide you on what colors/style to shop for!
TRENCH COATS
*TIP* : When shopping for trench coats, don’t be scared to go for ones with prints on them (i.e. plaid, houndstooth, geometric shapes, color blocking, leopard print)
PUFFER COATS
*TIP* : Puffer coats are everyone’s favorite, and super comfy. Make yours even more eye catching by choosing bright colors, and (of course) prints! Also, brand names such as The North Face and Aritzia sell the best puffers for this season.
BAGS
*TIP* : Popular silhouettes for this season range from box bags, oversized totes, the pouch purse, and small crossbody’s.
Got a cute outfit planned for the day that’ll inevitably be concealed by your full length puffer coat? Think about it- what WILL people be able to see? Pair it with your most stylish boots, a trendy winter hat, your best earrings, and a stand-out scarf. But keep in mind: staying warm is the ultimate goal! Don’t risk catching a cold (or worse) by wearing less clothes just to look cute.
It can be tricky looking stylish while it’s brick outside. Don’t get discouraged! It’s a matter of color and fabric combinations. So if an all black outfit is your go-to, dress it up with accessories and your own unique style to make it stand out more. If you still feel stuck, I’ve made three outfit combinations (with layering) that’ll help you this winter season.
